“Kinomachi Hatsukaichi Experience Event” Was Successfully Held!

On Saturday, August 16th, the “Kinomachi Hatsukaichi Experience Event” was held at miobyDoTS on the 3rd floor of minamoa!
The event featured hands-on experiences of Miyajima-bori carving and Miyajima Rokuro Turnery, with traditional craftsmen Hiroshi Ono and Kaname Okita, along with cooperative member Yusuke Shimomura, serving as instructors.

Many customers visited us that day and experienced both Miyajima-bori carving and Miyajima Rokuro Turnery firsthand. Through delicately carving with chisels and shaping wood with specialized tools, participants were able to experience these traditional Miyajima crafts that they rarely have the opportunity to encounter in their daily lives. We believe this was an excellent opportunity for those who were unfamiliar with Miyajima crafts to discover and appreciate the charm of both the crafts and the beauty of wood.

Additionally, the Miyajima Crafts Cooperative held an exhibition and sale of Miyajima crafts throughout the day, displaying works including Miyajima Shakushi, Miyajima Rokuro Turnery, and Miyajima-bori carving pieces. Visitors were able to view these precious works that are rarely seen in everyday life, and we believe they were able to appreciate the beauty of the skilled craftsmanship that can only be truly understood through hands-on experience.

Furthermore, this event marked the beginning of Miyajima crafts being handled at miobyDoTS! We have prepared a wide variety of attractive pieces that combine traditional craftsmanship created with dedication by traditional craftsmen with modern technology. Please be sure to stop by when you’re in the area!
