Chairman Ryuichi Oda Selected as Recipient of the Director-General’s Commendation from the Chugoku Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry

On Wednesday, October 1, 2025, the recipients of the FY2025 Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Commendation and the Director-General’s Commendation of the Chugoku Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry—awards recognizing contributions to the traditional crafts industry—were announced. Mr. Ryuichi Oda, Chairman of the Miyajima Crafts Cooperative Association, was selected as a recipient of the Director-General’s Commendation (Award for Meritorious Service).
This commendation honors individuals who have made significant contributions to the development of the traditional crafts industry. Chairman Oda has been involved in the production of the large ceremonial wooden rice scoop (ōshakushi) for more than 50 years, and he is currently the only craftsman in Miyajima still producing ōshakushi. In his role as chairman of the cooperative, he has also worked to disseminate information about our craft and to cultivate the next generation of artisans.
We will use this recognition as motivation to further improve our technical skills and to continue passing down our traditions. We sincerely appreciate your continued support and patronage.
