Feature on Miyajima Crafts aired on Hiroshima Home Television’s “PitaNew”!

On Friday, October 3, Hiroshima Home Television broadcast a special feature titled “Artisans Preserving and Passing Down Miyajima Crafts.” The segment introduced the efforts of young artisans who are working to carry on the more than 220-year tradition of Miyajima Crafts.
The program focused on three craftsmen: Mr. Hiroshi Ōno and Mr. Kaname Okita, both certified traditional artisans of Miyajima-style wood carving (Miyajima-bori), and Mr. Yusuke Shimomura, a woodturner who works with the cooperative and serves as a regional support staff member for Hatsukaichi City. The segment highlights their activities and the current situation surrounding Miyajima Crafts.
The feature is now available on the Hiroshima Home Television YouTube channel. It also includes footage from the “Kinomachi Hatsukaichi Experience Event” held in August at miobyDoTS (Minamoa West Building, 3rd floor); excerpts from that event are shown in the program, so please take a look.
